Events taking place across the world will form an integral part of quiz research so it would be important to keep in touch with the Times of Oman’s quizmaster Giri ‘Pickbrain’ Balasubramaniam’s clue for the students, who are set to participate in the Times of Oman Inter School Quiz Contest (TOOISQC) that starts on Wednesday.

The first of the prelims will be held at the Indian School Sohar in the evening.

Noted quizmaster Lloyd Saldanha from Greycaps will conduct the prelims of the inter-school quiz contest.

Commenting on the quiz, Saldanha said, “Like every year the Times of Oman School quiz brings together enthusiastic students to face our questions. This year too we are expecting to witness a collective outstanding performance from the schools.”

He also added, “Rest assured that we keep in mind the level of preparation and have set the prelims accordingly. Bring your A game to the quiz courts and let’s see how this clash of quotient unveils.”

Times of Oman has outsourced the organising of the 2017 edition of the inter-school quiz to leading event management company, Eventful/Doc LLC.

Dr Sathish Nambiar, managing director of Eventful /DOC LLC, said, “We are delighted to see the enthusiasm among the students, teachers and principals for participating in the quiz. It is evident that the Times of Oman quiz has now become a movement across schools for children. I am sure with students keeping their eyes and ears open to information around them, there will be emergence of new teams and talent. Students can continue to submit the registration/entry forms and hand it over to the person nominated by the respective schools before the last day of the quiz at their respective schools.”

Indian School Ghubra will be the next centre for the prelims, where the quiz will be conducted on April 22.

Like every year, Times of Oman will hold the inter-school quiz in two categories: junior (grade 8 and below) and senior (grade 9 to 13). Accordingly, there will be two sets of prelims, mega-prelims and finals for the two categories.

While the two mega-prelims have been fixed for Thursday, April 27 at the Indian School Muscat from 4pm onwards, the two finals of the contest are slated for Saturday, April 29, at the City Amphitheatre in Qurum.

The quiz is open to teams from all international and private schools and any number of teams from a school can take part.

Each team will have two students from the same school.

As a tribute to the memory of the late Essa bin Mohammed Al Zedjali, founder of MPPH, the Times of Oman has instituted a champion rolling trophy in his name for the inter-school quiz contest. The winning school teams at TOOISQC will lift the Essa bin Mohammed Al Zedjali Best School Trophy for their school.
