In his first official call, the British Ambassador to Lebanon Tom
Fletcher called on Prime Minister Najib Miqati, and passed on warm
greetings from the British Prime Minister David Cameron. Fletcher and
Miqati discussed UK support for Lebanon’s stability, and for vital
efforts to sustain dialogue, tolerance and coexistence. They also
welcomed Lebanese leadership of the Security Council during an
important month of negotiations, including on the important question of
how best to secure a viable Palestinian state.
For his part, Fletcher applauded the important role played by Lebanon
in international discussions of Libya and at the Paris Summit. Fletcher
also welcomed the Prime Minister’s public assurances on the STL , and
said that he was confident that Lebanon’s leaders would work on the
basis of Lebanon’s best interests.
