Ugandan poultry imports

"The Burundian government has taken preventive measures against bird flu that has already been declared in Uganda bird flu. Those measures include suspension of importation of poultry from Uganda as well as eggs and meat from Uganda and other contaminated countries," Burundian Agriculture and Livestock Minister Deo-Guide Rurema said.

According to him, the specialized technical directorate in charge of livestock will closely monitor the situation of bird flu in the world and update the list of contaminated countries.

"Burundi is also going to update and validate the national contingency plan on the fight against bird flu," Rurema said.

He added that strict control on border posts and surveillance of migratory birds will be operated.

Bird flu was reported last month in Uganda where hundreds of wild birds were found dead on the shores of Lake Victoria.
