An Israeli border policeman has shot and seriously wounded a Palestinian near Hebron in the West Bank, an Israeli police spokesperson told Xinhua Monday. According to Mickey Rosenfeld, the spokesperson, a border police unit near Hebron spotted a Palestinian man "acting suspiciously" close to the post they were guarding on Monday afternoon. A female policewoman noticed his erratic behavior and called on him to stop in both Hebrew and Arabic, Rosenfeld said, adding she then fired warning shots into the air, triggering the suspect to flee. A second policeman pursued the man, fired warning shots and then shot at his torso, injuring him in the stomach. The Palestinian man was seriously injured and was evacuated to the Jerusalem Sha'arei Tzedek hospital by Israeli paramedics. According to Rosenfeld, an inquiry into the circumstances of the incident is underway at the Israeli Border Police unit.
