Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov held consultations with Syrian First Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad, Interfax said quoting the Russian Foreign Ministry.

"A substantive exchange of views took place on issues regarding Syria's chemical demilitarization and Damascus' cooperation with the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW)," the ministry said in a statement.

"In the context of the OPCW and UN examining Syria's chemical dossier, the parties discussed the functioning of the relevant OPCW-UN Joint Investigative Mechanism (JIM), the ministry said.

The parties also discussed coordinating their efforts in countering threats of chemical terrorism.
