President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Tuesday said that maneuvers carried by naval forces today with live ammunition off the coast of Alexandria are part of major strategic maneuvers that include all corps of the Armed Forces.
The maneuvers, named Zat al-Sawari, are meant to raise the capabilities of naval forces in confronting potential maritime threats, Sisi told editors-in-chief of national news papers and MENA during a ceremony marking Navy Day.
He noted the major maneuvers will include air and ground forces to raise their capabilities in order to secure Egypt's national security all the time.
Earlier in the day, Sisi attended a ceremony marking Navy Day.
Present at the ceremony were Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab, Defense Minister Sedqi Sobhi, Chief of Staff Mahmoud Hegazi and Commander of the Naval Forces Osama el-Gendi received Sisi as he arrived at the naval command HQ in Raas el-Teen.
