Amman - Petra
Deputizing for His Majesty King Abdullah II, His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Al-Hussein was the patron on Saturday for the Integrated Field Exercise (IFE14) to simulate an almost entire on-site inspection (OSI) in the Dead Sea.
The exercise that began in Austria on the 3rd of November will continue until 9th of December. Involving four years of preparation, the exercise involves use of 150 tons of special equipment at an estimated cost of $10 million and more than 200 international experts.
The Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) performs OSI through a global management system based on more than 300 monitoring stations in the world working under multiple monitoring techniques including seismic measurement used to detect shock waves in the Earth.
Lassina Zerbo, the Executive Secretary of the CTBTO, expressed his gratitude to the Jordanian government for its support in hosting the exercise.
Jordan signed the Comprehensive Nuclear Test-Ban Treaty in1996 and later ratified it in1998, consistent with the Jordanian policy aimed at global disarmament and peace-building, as well as ridding the Middle East of all weapons of mass destruction.
