Sisi telephones former mufti after assassination attempt

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Friday telephoned Egypt's former mufti Ali Gomaa to inquire after his health condition following the assassination attempt that he escaped on Friday in the 6th of October city.

During the telephone call, Sisi strongly condemned terrorism and extremism and all attempts to harm Egypt's peace and stability and its moderate scholars who are keen on disseminating the upright teachings of Islam and fighting violence, terrorism and extermism.

For his part, the former grand mufti thanked the president, assuring him that such acts would not stop Muslim scholars from continuing their mission in confronting terrorism and correcting misconceptions.

Gomaa survived an attempted shooting as he was entering a mosque in the 6th of October city, where he was present to lead the weekly prayers. His personal bodyguard was slightly injured.
