Israeli troops have arrested two guards while working inside the holy Al Aqsa Mosque.

Salman Abu Mayala and Lo'ai Abul Saad were arrested and led to a police station after they stopped an element of the Israeli archaeological authority short of stealing a rock from the hall of the mosque, said Feras al Debs, the media coordinator of the Islamic Awqaf, Monday. 

A state of tension prevailed inside the mosque after the incident, Debs noted.

A group of Israeli settlers attempted to storm the mosque once again Monday amid tight security measures by Israeli police.
