Islamic State (IS)

Several soldiers of Libya's eastern-based army were killed and injured on Wednesday morning in a terrorist attack on a checkpoint in eastern Libya, according to local sources.

The attack is believed to be carried out by Islamic State (IS) affiliates, targeting an army checkpoint stationed in south of the eastern city Ejdabia.

IS affiliates in Libya attacked an army checkpoint in southern Libya in August, and slaughtered nine soldiers.

The army, led by General Khalifa Haftar, defeated extremist groups in the eastern city Benghazi.

IS affiliates were also expelled from Sirte, some 450 km east the capital Tripoli, by forces of the UN-backed government last year, forcing them to flee to desert and mountain areas in the south.
