cademy President Amr el-Assar

Anyone who had carried out acts harming national security and stability will not join the Police Academy, Assistant Interior Minister and Academy President Amr el Assar said.

Speaking to MENA on the sidelines of a conference held to announce terms for accepting new students on Sunday, Assar said that full investigations are carried out on student applicants and their families until fourth-degree relatives to make sure that none are involved in actions harming public and national security.

Commenting on reports alleging that some Muslim Brotherhood students have joined the Police Academy during the MB ruling, Assar said the students get tested thoroughly during their academic years to ensure none have extremist affiliation.

There is no cronyism or favoritism in accepting new students into the academy, he affirmed.

The academy chief stressed that training methods and academic curriculum are upgraded constantly.

The Police Academy is the largest worldwide and the third in terms of training according to the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Committee in 2008, he added.
