Sebastian Vettel with Ferrari

Sebastian Vettel topped the times for Ferrari in Saturday morning's crash-curtailed rain-hit third and final free practice session ahead of Sunday's Canadian Grand Prix.

The four-time champion from Germany was at the top of the time-lists when the session was red-flagged with 12 minutes remaining, leaving his rivals with no chance to clock a flying lap in the final minutes.

The early end of the session came when Kevin Magnussen crashed heavily in his Renault, the Danish driver losing control of his car at the exit of Turn Seven where he smashed into the wall on the left side of the circuit, wrecking the left rear section of his car.

Marshals ran to attend to Magnussen who was still in his cockpit for a few minutes before he climbed gingerly from his vehicle.

"Are you ok?" asked the team. "Kevin, are you ok?"

"Yeah, I'm ok," he said softly in response.

The accident brought the session to a premature end with marshals reporting that the wall had suffered serious damage.

Dutch teenager Max Verstappen was second quickest in his Red Bull ahead of German Nico Rosberg of Mercedes and Finn Kimi Raikkonen in the second Ferrari.

Defending three-time world champion Briton Lewis Hamilton, who was quickest in both sessions on Friday, was fifth in the second Mercedes ahead of Australian Daniel Ricciardo in the second Red Bull.
