Aleppo, Syria: A book has recently been published by a Syrian-based Publishing House under the title: (Famous Ancient Arab & Muslim Physicians: Selections from their Works & Anecdotes). The book was translated by Dr. ‘Ala Junior. The book comprises the résumés of about 200 ancient Arab and Muslim medical practitioners and pharmacologists who wrote books and/or medical dissertations in Arabic quoting from their most important books. The author chose celebrities from all ages starting from the early Islamic era to the late nineteenth century. The book listed Arab, Persian, Turkish, Uzbek, Afghan, Syrian, Egyptian, Iraqi, Moroccan physicians and pharmacologists throughout the ages. The author graduated from Aleppo University’s Faculty of Medicine in 1984. Dr. Ala Jr. specialized in Solid Glands, Diabetes & Nutrition from Niece University, France. He is also a member of the French Société médicale. He worked as medical assistant and consultant and conducted numerous clinical researches in major French medical centers. He is also a member in the Syrian Diabetes Society and also member in the Syrian Whole Glands & Diabetes Society. Dr. ‘Ala Jr. was awarded Al-Basel’s Scientific Creativity Prize in 2008 in consideration for all of his medical books dealing with solid glands’ ailments and diabetes mellitus. Also, he authored numerous books on internal medicine, public health and sexology. He published many research papers on solid glands and diabetes and presented them to a number of international medical and scientific conferences. He also published a number of medical articles on diabetes in Arabic magazines. He verified many medical scripts for his participations in conferences tackling Arabic and Islamic medical history.
