H.H. Shaikh Hazza bin Hamdan bin Zayed has honoured the winners of the ninth edition of the Braille Reading Competition in Abu Dhabi.
The contest aims to enable children to gain knowledge and display their social skills, according to UAE News Agency (WAM).
Since the competition was established in 2006, awareness among the public about visually-impaired people and their potential socially or in the workplace has increased.
The recognition came during a ceremony organised by the Zayed Higher Organisation for Humanitarian Care and Special Needs, represented by the Printing Press for the Visually-Impaired, under the motto "Everyone Reads."
H.H. Shaikh Hazza bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, while accompanied by Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Health Authority; Dr. Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, Director-General of the Abu Dhabi Education Council, and Naeema Al Mansouri, Manager of the Printing Press for the Visually Impaired, honoured the winners and offered them certificates of appreciation and financial awards. The project’s partners and participating publishers were also honoured.
A total of 81 people participated in the project’s 9th edition, including UAE nationals and residents from Bahrain, Germany, Jordan, Lebanon, Mauritania, Qatar, Sudan and Yemen, WAM reported.
