UAEREP
Abu dhabi - WAM

The UAE Research programme for Rain Enhancement Science, UAEREP, is participating in the American Geophysical Union, AGU, Autumn Meeting from December 12th-16th, in San Francisco, United States.

The delegation, led by Alya Al Mazroui, Manager of the UAE Research programme for Rain Enhancement Science, includes Mohamed Al Mheiri, Head of Media and Marketing Services, Sufian Farrah, Senior Meteorologist and Cloud Seeding Expert at the UAE National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology, and Latifa Yousef, Programme Officer.

The AGU meeting convenes leading international experts in the earth, climate, and space sciences. As the largest international scientific conference covering these disciplines, this year’s event is expected to draw more than 26,000 attendees to discuss the latest research across a broad spectrum of scientific activity.

The UAE Research Programme for Rain Enhancement Science delegation’s meetings at the AGU will serve to facilitate the exchange of innovative ideas on rain enhancement research with partners and stakeholders in the United States in order to encourage deeper understanding and collaboration in one of the most promising areas of atmospheric research. As primary conveners, members of the UAEREP delegation and First Cycle awardee, Professor Volker Wulfmeyer, will hold poster sessions on Thursday, 15th December.

These sessions will include a poster presentation by Sufian Farrah, Senior Meteorologist and Cloud Seeding Expert, entitled, "Achieve a Better Understanding of Cloud and Precipitation Processes for the Promotion of Water Security in Arid and Semi-Arid Regions". Professor Wulfmeyer will discuss a poster concerning "Advanced Understanding of Convection Initiation and Optimising Cloud Seeding by Advanced Remote Sensing and Land Cover Modification over the United Arab Emirates".

This week of meetings marks the second participation of UAEREP at this annual gathering of leading researchers and technologists.

In 2015, the programme team met with 13 institutions including Caltech, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, MIT, and the National Science Foundation. This year, increased participation of American and international scientists working on new solutions to ensure water security globally is expected.

Commenting on the delegation’s participation at the American Geophysical Union, Al Mazroui, said, "As part of our efforts to establish a global network of rain enhancement scientists and technologists, we will reach out to scientists and researchers at AGU to explore further opportunities of collaboration and advancement. My aim is to encourage substantive international cooperation in the field of rain enhancement science and to develop enduring links with interested stakeholders and the scientific community."
