Al Rayyan lost to Al Wakrah 98-96 in the opening match of the group stage of HH the Emir's basketball cup, a match that was staged at Al Gharafa Hall on Tuesday and required extra-time after it ended 83-83 at full-time.
The quarters ended 18-24, 24-23, 23-20 and 15-13 to Al Wakrah. Al Rayyan will face Al Sadd on Saturday in the second match of the competition.
Ten teams divided into two groups take part in the tournament this year. Group A comprises holders El Jaish, Al Sadd, Al Rayyan, Al Wakrah and Al Ahli, while Group B has last year's finalists Al Gharafa, Al Shamal, Al Arabi, Al Khor and Qatar.
In another match today, Al Sadd lost to Al Ahli 81-76 with the quarters ending 19-18, 19-22, 24-20 and 19-16 to Al Ahli, who face El Jaish on Saturday.
On Wednesday, Al Arabi take on Al Khor, while Al Shamal play Qatar. The tournament is played in a one-round league format, with the top four qualifying for the quarterfinals, which is a knockout stage.
