The Electricity Ministry
Cairo - MENA

The Electricity Ministry works on adding about 21 gigawatt to the national grid by 2021, a well-placed source at the ministry said.

In statements to MENA on Tuesday, the source said the ministry managed to realize a surplus in production after it was suffering a shortage over the past years.

Three major projects in the administrative capital, Borlous and Beni Suef will be finalized by May 2018 to add about 14,400 megawatt to the national grid, the source said.

The stations of west Assiut, west Damietta and west Damietta 2 were developed to operate by combined cycles to added about 1000 megawatt without consuming more fuel, the source added.

The source said there is another project in south Helwan will add about 1,350 megawatt to the national grid.

Concerning news about extending electricity to the Gaza Strip, the source said Egypt is committed to supplying the enclave with electricity in support of the Palestinians and this does not exceed 30 megawatt.
