A delegation from Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has visited Malaysia and Singapore to build closer ties with Malaysian and Singaporean energy, environment and water companies.

The visit supports DEWA’s efforts to promote the 18th Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX 2016) and the inaugural Dubai Solar Show 2016 that will be organised under the directives of Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance , and President of DEWA from 4-6 October 2016 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

DEWA’s delegation to both countries included Saeed Bel Jafla, Senior Manager of Government Relations and Abdul Syed Abdul Hameed, Senior Manager of Contracts. The delegation visited Kuala Lumpur, the headquarters of the Malaysian External Trade Development Corporation and International Enterprise (IE) Malaysia, a government agency with a mandate to drive Malaysian exports.

During the tour, DEWA promoted WETEX 2016 to bring together various stakeholders in energy, water, environment, sustainable development, and oil and gas under one roof. The show is an ideal venue for them to reach agreements and partnerships, communicate with partners and customers, as well as presents their services and solutions to a large number of customers.

"We have noticed wide recognition and appreciation from the Malaysian and Singaporean companies to the efforts of DEWA and Dubai in its green economy drive and journey towards diversifying its energy sources as part of Dubai Plan 2021 and Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050," said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, and President and Founder of WETEX.

"We look at becoming a global role model in supporting the economic growth in Dubai and ensuring energy supply and efficiency of its use to realise our goals in environment and sustainability and transform the Emirate into a global hub for clean energy and green economy. This requires immense cooperation from competent energy sectors across the world," he added.

MATRADE organised a workshop in Menara MATRADE in Kuala Lumpur, entitled Business and Investment Opportunities to discuss collaboration with DEWA and invite Malaysian companies to participate in WETEX 2016. Deputy Chief Executive Officer of MATRADE introduced the DEWA delegation to Malaysian energy, water, environment, and solar energy companies.

DEWA delegation held meetings with 74 Malaysian companies and organisations in the presence of MATRADE, International Enterprise (IE) Malaysia, Electrical & Electronics Association of Malaysia (TEEAM), the Construction Industry Development Board Malaysia (CIDB), the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM), and the National Water Services Commission.

In Singapore, DEWA delegation held meetings with International Enterprise (IE) Singapore and 40 Singaporean companies and organisations from the public and private sectors, most notably TENAGA National Berhard. These companies expressed their interest in expanding their operations in the Gulf region through participating at WETEX 2016 that has become a global common platform for companies and organisations working in the energy, water and environment sectors being one of the best specialist exhibitions in the world.
