Aleppo - Sana
With a total cost of SYP 875 million two electricity energy transformation plants were put in service on Monday to supply the old City of Aleppo and al-Ashrafieh district and its neighborhoods with power. The capacity of the two stations reached 60 megavolt ampere with a tension of (66) 20 kV. Minister of Electricity, Imad Khamis, pointed out that the two centers aim at reducing loads on the electricity network, supporting the electricity network and meeting the citizens' demand in the two areas as they added 120 megavolt to electricity system in Aleppo Province. Khamis stressed that the two plants were carried out by national experts and efforts, indicating that another station will be established in the Industrial City in Sheikh Najjar area. Earlier, Qatana 66-20 kV electricity transformation plant in Damascus was put in service with a capacity of 60 mega watt with a total cost reached SYP 350 million. The plant aims at improving the reliability of the electricity network in the region and reducing overload on the neighboring plants. Minister of Electricity said that the new plant will support the electricity system and improve the performance of electricity network in more than 12 neighboring cities and villages. He stressed that the Ministry will ratify new contracts on the establishment of 25 new electricity generation stations during this year and there are 20 other plants within the plan of the next year with a total cost of SYP 8 to SYP 9 billion.
