The impact of the 25 January revolution in Egypt on the country’s media landscape will be examined by an elite panel of industry experts at the tenth edition of the Arab Media Forum. Titled ‘Egyptian Media Post 25 January’, the session will seek to compare the status of the Egyptian media before and after the historical people’s revolution. It will particularly outline the challenges faced by professionals in the sector during the turmoil, as well as the consequential redefined role of the Egyptian media industry. Some of the uprising’s outcomes including the enhanced freedom of expression for the Egyptian media and its consequent transformation into a model similar to that of the Lebanese media will additionally be deliberated during the discussion. Moderated by Mohamed Krichen, Anchor, Al Jazeera Channel, the panellists at the session will include Wael Kandil, Managing Editor, Al Shorouk newspaper, Mona El Shazly, Anchor, Dream TV, Magdy Al Galad, Editor-in-Chief, Al Masry Al Youm newspaper, Hamdy Kandil, Egyptian Media Personality, and Belal Fadl, Writer and Screenplay Writer from Egypt. Organised under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Arab Media Forum will take place from 17-18 May at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Dubai. Themed ‘Arab Media: Riding out the Storms of Change’, the event is expected to witness 60 global speakers taking the podium with the participation of more than 2,400 delegates including media experts from newspapers, television, radio and the academia.
