Baker Institute for Public Policy
Abu Dhabi - WAM

The External Relations and Collaborations Department at the Petroleum Institute, PI, today hosted presentations and a panel discussion for Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy students and faculty. The discussions provided students with knowledge on the importance of oil and gas in the economy of the UAE as a whole, energy market conditions, and the role of women in engineering.

Eight students and 2 faculty members from Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy, the Houston-based think-tank, attended the discussions during their stay in the UAE. They participated in the ‘Dubai Lab’ course which provided an in-depth analysis of Dubai so that they can gain micro-level knowledge and understanding on how politics and policy work in a specific case and also on how to apply theories and concepts from the macro-level focus.

The guest speaker, Reem Al Otaiba, Corporate Communications Division, ADNOC, said, "Such panel discussions provide students with a platform which helps them to become familiar with different cultural, religious, geographic and socio-economic backgrounds. This helps students broaden their horizon and learn new and unique experiences beyond their own communities. Also, students develop a positive outlook, comprehend a wider range of perspectives and hone their knowledge and skills for participation in a multicultural society."

PI speakers Dr. Thomas Hochstettler, President, and Dr. Ebrahim Al Hajri, Director of External Relations and Collaborations, also participated in the discussions.

Dr. Ebrahim Al Hajri said, "Our focus is to enhance the skills of students through such conferences. We support an environment that engages our faculty, staff and students and promotes effective participation. These platforms provide an excellent opportunity for exchanging ideas and discussing pioneering concepts in the industry."
