For residents of Pennsylvania, Michigan and elsewhere, Google Now is currently reminding users to register to vote before their state's deadline. Pop-ups are appearing on the phones of Google Now users showing the date they need to register and the date of elections, November 4th.
Users in other states will reportedly be seeing similar Google Now cards soon.
According to Pew Research, voter turnout for midterm elections has been lower than presidential elections since the 1840s. In 2010, only 36.9 percent of the voting-age population turned out to vote, compared to 53.7 percent in 2012 for President Obama's re-election.
It appears Google is attempting to curb this trend by reminding people to register to vote before the deadline. Polling indicates Republicans are likely to gain seats in Congress during this year's midterm elections.
