Cairo - Arab Today

The Cairo Criminal Court on Saturday adjourned the trial of ousted president Mohamed Morsi and 24 other defendants over insulting the judicial authority to May 21 session.

Morsi – who stands accused alongside 24 other terrorist Brotherhood associates and Islamist figures – is facing charges of disrespecting the Egyptian court system and rulings via comments made on social media and in interviews with the press.

The list of defendants includes a number of Muslim Brotherhood leaders including former guide of the group Mahdi Akef, chairman of the Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party Saad el Katatny, senior member Mohamed el Beltagy, and Muslim Brotherhood lawyers Ahmed Abou Baraka and Sobhi Saleh.

Other Islamists including Al Jamaa Al Islamiya member Assem Abdel Maged, Al Wasat Party member Mohamed Mahsoub, ultraconservative preacher Wagdy Ghoneim and Noha Othman el Zeiny.

Former judge Mahmoud el Khodeiry and lawyers Mohamed Moneib Ginidy, Mansour Al Zayat, Amir Hamdy Salem and Hamdy el Fakharany are also included in the case.

Politicians are also implicated in the case, which includes former lawmakers Amr Hamzawy, Mostafa el Naggar, Mahmoud el Saqqa and Mamdouh Ismail.
