Sharjah Environment Company Beeah
Sharjah - Arab Today

Beeah, the Sharjah Environment Company, has announced the setting up of its first solar power project on its landfill site as part of its renewable energy projects' portfolio, and in line with company's vision for future growth and expansion beyond waste management in 2015.
The company, which has announced a Build Operate Transfer, BOT, tender at the World Future Energy Summit, WFES, 2015 in Abu Dhabi, is seeking to identify a partner who will develop, build and set up the project on the Bee'ah main landfill site at the Bee'ah Waste Management Centre in Al Saj'ah - Sharjah.
During the WFES, Bee'ah shed light on its plans to expand its scope of operations in 2015, growing from a company that is primarily focused on waste management into one that is engaged in various aspects and domains of environmental management, as well as expanding its scope geographically to branch outside the UAE.
The solar power project will generate more than 20 MW, of which part will be utilised to sustainably power all the Bee'ah facilities at the Waste Management Centre as an off grid (Stand-alone PV system) installation with potential storage capacity to power the facilities during non-daylight hours.
Khaled Al Huraimel, Group CEO of Bee'ah, said, "The solar power project is a significant step forward in our strategic growth as a company into the renewable energy sector." He added, "The uniqueness of the Bee'ah solar power project stands out from others in the region is due to the utilisation of conventionally unusable land space, the landfill site, and the ability to power recycling facilities, which as a result will position Sharjah as an innovator in this industry." Najib Faris, Managing Director of Business Development and Communications at Bee'ah, commented, "With one of the largest landfills in the region, we aim to utilise the area of our main landfill in Sharjah, which is often seen as contaminated land not readily suitable for commercial development, to implement our first solar project, part of a wider future energy mission, which will power our waste management and recycling facilities, thus reducing our total carbon footprint as a company and adding to the overall sustainability our operations and the emirate at large." Al Huraimel added, "Bee'ah was created to ensure that the urgent problems of sustainable development in the emirate are resolved, as a result we promised to deliver the best environmental management solutions that would benefit our city through proper waste management systems, better air and water quality while supporting the renewable energy generation and encouraging the reduction of energy consumption. Future energy needs are high on the agenda throughout the Middle East and Bee'ah is already underway to implementing more initiatives which will benefit both the environment and the community as we move forwards in the era of renewable energy and environmental sustainability."
