Kuwait City - Arab Today

Kuwait Emir Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah sent a cable of congratulations to former Portuguese prime minister Antonio Guterres for his appointment as a new UN Secretary General, the Kuwaiti news agency Kuna reported.

In his cable, the Kuwaiti emir wished Guterres success in continuing his predecessors' efforts to fulfill world peoples' aspirations for peace and security.

He also hoped the new UN chief would double the UN efforts to resolve humanitarian issues and promote principles of justice, equality and end the suffering of people across the world.

The emir emphasized that Kuwait would remain a staunch supporter and effective member in the United Nations out of its deep conviction of the international organization's noble mission.

Kuwaiti Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah and Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al Mubarak Al Hamad Al Sabah sent similar cables to Guterres.
