Simone de Beauvoir Prize awarded to Tunisian Democratic Women\'s Association

The 2012 Simone de Beauvoir Prize for Women's Freedom was awarded to the Tunisian Democratic Women's Association (ATFD) which distinguished itself with its activism in favour of the promotion of women's rights and played a key role in the Tunisian Revolution. "We are proud to have been awarded this prize by a jury made up of philosophers and personalities from the world of arts and literature," said to TAP news Agency Mrs. Fathia Hizem, ATFD external relations official. Created in 2008, on the 100th anniversary of the birth of Simone de Beauvoir (January 9, 1908), the prize is worth 20,000 euros. It is supported by the French Institute, the National Book Centre, the Paris-Diderot University and the Gallimard publishing house. In 2008, ATFD was awarded the French Republic's human rights prize "Freedom, Equality and Fraternity."
