Abu dhabi - WAM

Celebrating the first birthday of their first 50 babies, Danat Al Emarat Hospital for Women and Children in Abu Dhabi has announced that 2,025 babies have been delivered at the hospital since the first registered birth on 28th October, 2015, of which 1,387 were UAE nationals. There were 1,052 boys and 973 girls, while 48 pairs of twins, 2 cases of triplets and 1 case of quadruplets were delivered in the past 13 months.

A special celebration for the first 50 babies born at Danat Al Emarat who recently turned 1 year old was organised and attended by the babies, their families, hospital management, and a number of obstetricians, paediatricians and nurses. The hospital distributed gifts to the boys and girls who gathered on the occasion.

Mohammed Ali Al Shorafa Al Hammadi, CEO of United Eastern Medical Services, said, "Newborns at Danat Al Emarat Hospital exceeded 2,025 in 13 months, evidence of the growth of the hospital’s various departments offering advanced health services for women and children. Over 65% of the newborns were UAE nationals."

Vino Nallaya, CEO of Danat Al Emarat Hospital, said, "Due to the expertise of our physicians, and the establishment of a comprehensive foetal medicine unit and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, NICU , our Obstetrics Department manages a high volume of high-risk pregnancies and many multiple pregnancy cases, thus having 48 pair of twins since the hospital opened. 150 of our total newborns were either premature or unwell, and needed to stay for a few days or weeks at the NICU."

She added, "The hospital has 10 delivery rooms, and 20 NICU beds equipped with state of the art equipment. One of the smallest newborns weighed 1,100 grams and was born during the 28th week of pregnancy."

At the celebration, one of the fathers said that the team at Danat Al Emarat Hospital took care of his wife and baby last year. "My boy is now growing day by day, and is being followed up at the paediatrics department in the hospital. They have one file for him, with all the information since he was born which gives us more confidence, from vaccinations to regular checkups and when he feels unwell," he said.
