Egyptian actor Fathy Abdel Wahab expressed his pleasure for his return to the theatre, as he participated recently in a theatrical performance “But You Are Not Smelling”. He added that this participation comes after long absence from the theatre since he presented “Hamlet” in 2003. He added, “Each time, I decide to return to the theatre, I face conditions preventing me.”
He praised the play in which he participates currently, saying that it carries very important messages on the social and political levels, as it monitors the change witnessed in the Egyptian community on political, social, cultural, and religious sides during the recent 40 years.
He added that the major challenge facing the Egyptian theatre is the lack of capabilities, stressing the need for a governmental role to restore the Egyptian theatre during the coming period. He praised the successful experience to restore the role of Egyptian theatre, while he stressed the need for exerting more efforts on the governmental side.
He refuted the claims blaming January 25 Revolution for the current theatrical absence, saying that there are many reasons that prevent the return of Egyptian theatre, including the absence of this kind of art from the schools and universities.
He also praised his participation in the new film “Forced Escape”, saying that the fans will like this film as it provides a cheerful atmosphere to the viewers. He added that it contains a large number of superstars. He added, “What attracted me to this experience is the different scenario. I am enthusiastic to this experience.”
He added that the cinema is like any other industry facing periods of rise and other periods of decline. He stressed that it has been affected by the political and economic conditions witnessed in the country. He added that this industry needs a base of skilled workers, technicians and artists to be able to present the required performance.
He revealed that he apologized for not participating at “The Group” TV Drama show scheduled to be presented during the coming Ramadan. He said that he received an offer, while he apologized for his preoccupation in his new theatrical performance. He expressed his hope to present the story of Egypt’s first President Mohamed Naguib.
