Over 600 people, including men, women and children, were rescued during an operation by the Nigerian Army in the Sambisa Forest, the last remaining camp of Boko Haram armed militants in the country.
A military official said that within one week, the army had rescued 69 adult males, 180 females and 356 children in operations.
According to Africa News, the military operation was aimed at flushing out Boko Haram. "Rescue operation troops continue to record remarkable progress in the fight against the armed militants in Sambisa forest."
The army has taken the fight to Boko Haram since Muhammadu Buhari became President in 2015. According to the army, the militants are now restricted to the Sambisa forest with their only threats being the use of suicide bombers, usually young girls, to attack targets.
