The Arab Quartet committee on the peace process met in Cairo late Monday at the foreign ministerial level.
Under Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, the ministers discussed at the Arab League headquarters a move by the Arab group at the UN to submit a bill before the end of the current year denouncing continued Israeli settlement building.
The committee met before the beginning of the extraordinary meeting of the Arab League Council. The meeting under Shoukri also was attended by Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh, Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al Maliki, Moroccan Ambassador to Egypt and Permanent Representative at the Arab League Ahmed al Tazi and Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit.
The bill will also demand the end of the Israeli occupation.
Palestinian Ambassador to Egypt and Permanent Representative at the Arab League Jamal al Shobaki highlighted the importance of the Quartet meeting, noting that Egypt supports the Palestinian cause, especially within the framework of its current membership of the UN Security Council as the sole representative of Arab countries.
