The UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) approved in the Austrian capital, Vienna, on Tuesday a final document that is expected to be issued by the UN General Assembly's high profile meeting to discuss the world problem of illegal drugs in New York on April 19-21.
The Egyptian presidency of the negotiations, which led to the approval of the draft document to be presented to the General Assembly meeting, was greatly appreciated by the participating delegation.
The approval of the document came after one year of negotiations between all countries concerned with facing the drug problem, Egypt's Ambassador in Vienna and permanent envoy to the UN bodies Khaled Shamaa told MENA.
The document is the governing strategy that directs the international efforts at the level of combating drugs during the coming five years, he added.
He noted that the Egyptian delegation in Vienna was keen during the negotiating process that the document would reflect Egypt's priorities and stances in combating the illegal drugs.
