
The Arab League has condemned the raids on a town in the Syrian province of Idlib, in which chemical weapons were used.
In a statement issued Tuesday, Secretary General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit said the targeting and killing of civilians using a prohibited means is a major crime and a barbaric act, adding that whoever committed it will not escape punishment and should be held accountable before the international community in accordance with international law and international humanitarian law.
He stressed that the guarantor sides of the ceasefire should act seriously and swiftly in order to prevent the continuation of violations, which negatively affect the situation in general and the political talks between the regime and the opposition in particular, and decreases the chances of reaching an appropriate and acceptable settlement between all parties to the crisis.
