Gdim Izik Victims' families
Rabat - Arab Today

As the first day of court proceedings began for the Gdim Izik defendants and families of the victims, two Moroccan groups from Australia have declared their support for the families of the victims.

The Sydney Moroccan Association came out in support of the families of the victims of the Gdim Izik tragedy in a statement issued on Monday. “Eleven members of the security forces were cruelly murdered whilst unarmed, by members of the militia of the Polisario, who are trained in terrorist methods.”

The statement also noted that “the terrifying and shocking images clearly show the gravity of these infamous, cowardly acts committed by the criminals.”

“The holding of public hearings and the guarantee to the offenders of all their rights to a fair trial, show that civil justice and law is in place. We hereby support the rule of Law which is prevailing in Morocco, with a reliable and fair judicial system,” the source added.

“The trial will expose the entire truth and bring to justice the unlawful actions of the Polisario, which has been described as a terrorist movement by many international officials,” the association pointed out.

The association “wishes to convey its sincere condolences and support to the families of the servicemen who lost their lives, who are martyrs, and assures them of its support and sincere solidarity.”

A groundswell of support also came forward on Monday in Melbourne with its Moroccan Community Association announcing its full support of the victim’s families, praising their “courage” and “sacrifice.”

“The reopening of the trial will allow the families of the martyred law enforcement forces to finally find peace and honor the memory of the victims who have fallen while doing their duty,” the association pointed out in a statement.

Their statement also declared the association’s approval of the trial being moved to a civil court, which allowed the families an opportunity to unite as one civil group to defend their interests.  It noted that “this also guarantees the defendants the conditions for a fair and transparent trial.”

“We are closely following this trial and wish the families of the 11 martyrs who have been savagely murdered, the strength and courage to carry out this fight, so that justice can be done,” the association said.

They also underscored the importance of keeping the memory of the 11 murdered security force members alive by honouring and recognizing their ultimate sacrifice, adding that “their executioners must be severely punished for the horrible acts they have committed.”
