Muscat - arabstoday
Eighteen people died, including 16 in road crashes, across Oman last week, according to a press release from Royal Oman Police (ROP) on Monday. Sixteen people were killed and 186 injured in 119 road accidents between May 28 and June 3 in different parts of the country. According to Royal Oman Police (ROP) statistics, 59 accidents involved collisions; there were 24 cases of vehicles hitting stationary objects, 13 run over accidents, and 23 cases of vehicles overturning. Two children riding bicycles were killed in separate accidents when they were hit by vehicles. In the first case, a child was killed when a vehicle hit his bicycle in Mabella area in Muscat last Wednesday. Another 15-year-old boy was fatally knocked off by a vehicle when he tried to cut across a main road in Jaa\'lan in eastern region. The ROP has urged parents to monitor their children and asked them not to allow their children to ride bicycles in crowded places or on main roads. An Omani died when he fell from a mountain in Al Taf area in the Dhank village while trying to search for honeycombs. Another Omani citizen drowned in sea in Suwaiq town in north, the police said.
