Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry received a call Saturday from Chief Palestinian Negotiator Saeb Erekat.
Erekat, who also serves as Secretary General of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), expressed thanks to Egypt for voting in favor of the resolution passed Friday by the UN Security Council demanding an end to the construction of Israeli settlements on occupied Palestinian territories.
The Palestinian official also confirmed the Palestinians' full confidence in Cairo in defending the Palestinian cause, said spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Abu Zeid.
Shoukry, for his part, asserted that Egypt is fully committed to support the Palestinian cause and preserve the rights of Palestinian people, added the spokesman.
The two sides agreed to continue coordination and consultation within the coming period in order to push forward peace process and resume the Palestinian-Israeli negotiations.
