Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary-General Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani condemned the attack which targeted yesterday the office of Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper in Beirut.
In a statement today, he described the attack as a cowardly act, in violation of the media liberties which are guaranteed by the international laws.
"This cowardly assault does not reflect the stances of the Lebanese people who understand and realize the crucial role of Asharq Al-Awsat in supporting Lebanon on the media level", he said.
He underlined the stance of the newspaper in supporting the efforts of the Government to maintain the security and stability of Lebanon and achieving its people’s aspirations to freedom, dignity and development.
Dr. Al-Zayani expressed his confidence in the ability of the Lebanese security authorities to unveil the circumstances of the criminal act, arrest the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
