Iranian oil minister Bijan Zanganeh
Baghdad - Najla al-Taie

Iranian oil minister Bijan Zanganeh announced that the Iranian gas will be exported to Iraq by the next week, Fars news agency reported. The first shipments will be 50 million cubic meters, the minister added.

The Iranian minister stressed that the majority of countries would like to extend the agreement of the production freeze between OPEC and independent producers, and that Iran in turn supports this decision, and will abide by the agreement as long as other parties have committed.

An Iranian oil official announced earlier on the operation of the Iranian gas pipeline to Iraq, pointing out that the amount of gas exported during the first phase will be five million cubic meters per day. At the same time, the Iranian oil minister said that his country does not mind entering US companies to its oil sector.

Iranian Oil Ministry revealed in May 2014 that it would supply Iraq with natural gas, indicating that it intensified its efforts to boost its gas production. The ministry referred to the agreement on the deal on the export of gas to Iraq. Iraq and Iran signed an agreement in 2013, under which Iran will resume exporting gas to Iraq to feed three power plants in Baghdad and Diyala, but three years later, exports are still on hold.

Iraq has signed two agreements with Iran for the import of gas, where the Iranian gas will be exported to the regions of Baghdad and Basra. The Iranian Oil Ministry announced the possibility of starting the first phase of the export of gas to Iraq, with a capacity of 25 million cubic meters of gas per day, pointing to the increase of this volume to 35 million cubic meters of gas in hot days.
