The Egyptian Trade Union Federation
Cairo - Arab Today

The Egyptian Trade Union Federation (ETUF) has strongly condemned calls for demonstrations on September 12 in protest at the new civil service law, which was issued on March 12.

Those "suspicious" calls come at a time Egypt has witnessed many achievements, such as the inauguration of the New Suez Canal, an ETUF statement said Tuesday.

They come as a new academic year is just around the corner, the statement said, believing this shows the ill intentions of those behind the calls.

They want to halt education at schools and universities in a failed attempt to shake security and stability, ETUF charged.

The protest calls also come only days after President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's successful visits to Singapore, China and Indonesia, the statement said.

Those visits have contributed to pumping more Asian investments into the Egyptian market, it noted.

ETUF also pointed to the fact that the calls come ahead of the implementation of the third phase of the road map - the parliamentary elections that is.

It accused those behind the calls of acting to halt the polls and defame the state.

ETUF made it clear that those calls originate from independent and illegal trade unions that do not represent workers.
