Rabat will host “Afrique en Capitale”, an ambitious cultural rendezvous intended to celebrate contemporary African culture,from March 28 to April 28.

The event promises to  present to the public diverse disciplines, from photography to street art, through concerts, film screenings, lectures and exhibitions, with contributions from artists from more than 30 African countries.

The event is “in the wake of the speech of King Mohammed VI at the 28th African Union summit and the national dynamics committed to continental development,” said the National Museum Foundation (FNM) in a statement.

The names of the invited artists have not been revealed yet, except for the Malian artist Abdoulaye Konaté, who will be present and exhibit his work at the Expression CDG area, says the coordinator of the event, Brahim El Mazned.

The Malian Artist, Abdoulaye Konaté will also exhibit his works at Galerie 38 in Casablanca from March 16 to April 17.

Rabat’s cultural spaces will be massively mobilized for “Afrique en Capitale”. For the opening of the event on March 28, an exhibition will bring together several contemporary African artists in Bab el Rouah.

The Museum of Modern Contemporary Art will also host an exhibition, as will the ONA Foundation and Bank Al Maghrib.

A conference will also be organized every Thursday at the Museum Mohammed VI in partnership with the CNDH (National Council of Human Rights) .

A collective of African photographers will also exhibit their works during the event at the Bab El Kebir Gallery in Oudayas.

A historical exhibition on the Moroccan heritage will also be held at the National Library of the Kingdom of Morocco. It will bring together a photographer and a painter, whose identities remain secret for the moment.

Four walls of the city will be painted in frescoes by contemporary African painters, adding to the many facades already painted by street artists previously invited to Rabat, while the tram will also be completely covered with paintings and colors.

In partnership with the Moroccan Cinematographic Center, a week of African cinema will also be organized from 10 to 15 April, in which African  filmmakers but also many film students from all over Africa , will go to Rabat to display their films.

The major cultural event is coordinated by the FNM was carried out in partnership with many cultural and institutional operators of the capital, said the foundation in a statement.

These institutions are: the Ministry of Communication, Culture, Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, National Council of Human Rights, Mohammed V Theater, Bank Al Maghrib Museum, National Library of the Kingdom of Morocco, Institute of African Studies, The Higher Institute of Audiovisual and Cinema Professions, the CDG Foundation, the ONA Foundation and the Montresso Foundation.
