Giza Plateau
Cairo - Arab Today

The Ministry of State for Antiquities asserted on Friday that the sites of Giza Pyramids and Sphinx are safe from the threat of groundwater.
The level of the subterranean water under Egypt's historical monuments dropped down to seven meters away from the statue's bottom thanks to a new system installed to pump water out from the underlying bedrock, said Director of Cairo and Giza antiquities Kamal Wahid.
A two-phased project was launched with drilling nine wells in the area to clear it off water danger, Wahid added, noting that dozens of other wells would be drilled.
Also, a feasibility study was made on a giant project to eliminate the danger from the whole place, the top official added.
Subterranean water levels at the Giza plateau have recently increased due to a new drainage systems installed in the neighboring villages and a golf course.
The project started pumping up water out as of April 30, 2012, Wahid said.
