Tickets go on sale for Olympic basketball, handball finals

The Olympic men's and women's basketball finals will be among the events included in the latest round of Rio 2016 ticket sales on Thursday.

Tickets for the gold medal matches for men's and women's handball will also be available to Brazilian residents from noon local time, organizers said.

The basketball deciders will be played at the 16,000-capacity Carioca Arena 1 on August 20 and 21. The 12,000-seat Future Arena will host the handball finals on the same days.

The new batch of tickets also includes other basketball and handball sessions, organizers said.

Tickets are available online or at physical outlets at selected shopping malls in Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte and Rio de Janeiro.

On Monday Rio 2016 ticketing director Donovan Ferreti said 4.2 million tickets had already been sold for the Games, around 70% of the total available. Another 1.8 million tickets were still available, he added.

Ticket prices range from about 12 US dollars to several hundred dollars for the most sought-after events.

The Rio 2016 Games - the first Olympics in South America - will be staged from August 5 to 21.
