The Head of the security committee in Basra, Jabbar al-Saadi, revealed, in private statements for Arabs Today, the presence of armed factions in the province do not belong to Popular Mobilization Forces(PMF) and non-licensed.

These factions operate in headquarters and sites within the province, and own cars and weapons without the knowledge of originals of those factions, causing overwhelm the security situation in city, where crime rates have recently risen to high levels, which requires a serious stand to prevent the recurrence of such violations.

Saadi added that there is a weakness in coordination between the various security agencies, and there is a lack of intelligence efforts and accurate information on crime gangs.

He explained that the unlicensed weapons are circulating among the clans in Basra, and we will work in the coming period to issue identification cards to those factions, to distinguish the official factions and to exclude of other factions as well as the proliferation of weapons between the clans, which reflected negatively on the security of citizens.

The narcotic substances enter into Iraq from Iran through its border with Iraq in Basra, and this area is a breeding ground for those traders and promoters of banned substances.

The relevant committees held meetings to discuss these issues and to discuss the security situation in the province.

Informed sources stressed for Arabs Today that drug are common among people of the province significantly, even among young people in middle school. The source, who preferred not to be named, said those materials entering to maintain the protection and care of the armed groups and factions.

For its part, the police office in Basra governorate has called on citizens to hand over all the weapons in their possession during a maximum period of ten days, while security forces confirmed that it will begin extensive operations across the province after the deadline expires.

The Basra Governorate Council's member Hussam Abu Hail, questioned the ability of the security forces in the province to disarm the clans, explaining that there is a willingness by the federal government and local government to disarm the heavy and medium weapons from all clans.

There are high-level coordination between the federal government, local government and security leaders in the province could lead to the existence of a specialized security force to disarm these weapons from the clans if not delivered during the specified period, Hail said, adding that the province is awaiting military force to disarm the clans.
