Putting forward the first book of his three-part historical saga, author Peter V. Speziale releases "The Seabrooks"(published by Xlibris), a novel depicting the challenges faced by a pacifist family as they struggle to maintain their position of neutrality during the Revolutionary War. Speziale employs elements of drama and action to chronicle their journey along with rich descriptions of the natural beauty of the Hudson River Valley's surrounding nature.
"The Seabrooks" follows the story of Betty, Henry and John who are convicted to their well-entrenched, neutralist view towards the war. Representing roughly one third of the colonial Americans who wished to remain impartial during the revolutionary era, they took on a political view that emphasized not only staying uninvolved throughout the war, but also desired a swift, bloodless and peaceful resolution to the conflict. Yet, although refusing to be involved in its affairs, the war pursued to touch their lives until a significant event impacts the entire family and causes them to reassess their ideologies and political views in regards to the war.
The book also depicts an Indian abduction of a white woman, her adventures with the Indians and the author’s emblematic views latently detailed along with descriptive references to the beauty of the Mohawk River Valley, Adirondack Mountains and Hudson River Valley. Conspiracies play, infused with politics, drama and romance, promising an ending that will 'delight and catch everyone off guard,' says Speziale.
Touching on various themes including politics, environmental preservation, social pressures and cultural prejudice, "The Seabrooks" offers an insightful read on the many aspects of history and humanity.
