Government to buy one million tons of rice during harvest season

The ministerial economic group will allot nearly EGP 4 billion for purchasing one million tons of rice during the next harvest season from farmers, Supply and Internal Trade Minister Khaled Hanafy said.
The latest rice crisis in the market was a “casual” one and currently large amounts of rice are being supplied to outlets at a price of EGP 4.5 per kilogram, he said.
