Baghdad Governor Ali el Tamimi urged on Monday citizens to cooperate more with security bodies to detect terrorist groups targeting Shiites travelling to holiest shrines in Iraq.
The governor's remarks came as Shiites prepare to mark today the Arbaeen religious event in Iraq 's holy city of Kerbala to mark the end of a 40-day mourning period since Ashura, which marks the death of Prophet Mohammad's grandson Imam Hussein in 680AD.
Terrorists are trying to foment sedition among Iraqis, he warned, calling on security men to take more precautionary measures to foil terrorists' schemes.
Nine explosions rocked the Iraqi capital on Sunday, leaving dozens dead and wounded.
