
Iraqi security forces foiled on Thursday a suicide attack on a checkpoint in northern Samarra city.
The Iraqi security troops opened fire at a suicide bomber driving a vehicle loaded with a booby-trapped tank before his arrival to the security checkpoint close to Abbasi district in northern Samarra city of Saladin province, a security source said.
Meanwhile, about 31 Daesh elements were killed in armed clashes with Iraqi security forces in southern Tikrit, a security source with Saladin province stated.
Among those killed were a leader of Daesh terrorist group who is responsible for making bombs.
