WFP gets ready to provide food aid to anticipated displaced people from Mosul

World Food Program Spokesperson Bettina Luescher said the organization is ready to respond to the urgent food needs of civilians who are expected to be displaced from the Iraqi city of Mosul as a result of ongoing battle to liberate the city from the grip of Daesh terrorist group.

At a press conference held here on Tuesday, Luescher said WFP teams have prepared over the past few weeks enough food supplies for the anticipated displacement of Mosul residents who might reach a million persons by the end of the year. They will be served necessary food upon their arrival to safe areas, added the spokesperson. 

In order to respond to anticipated displacement resulting from military operations in Mosul, WFP will need dlrs 88 million. This will cover the procurement and pre-positioning of stocks to assist 1.4 million people for three months.
