Responding to the national mourning announced by Egypt's presidency, the Cairo Opera House has announced that it suspends all concerts across all of its venues, in Cairo, Alexandria and Damanhour, for seven days, starting Monday 16 February.
President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi declared on Sunday a week of mourning and offered condolences to all Egyptians following confirmation of the killing of 21 Egyptian hostages in Libya.
Twenty-one Coptic Christians, mostly from impoverished villages in Upper Egypt, were kidnapped between late December and early January in the Libyan city of Sirte.
Some of the hostages appear in the video released on Sunday by the jihadist Islamic State group (IS) on YouTube showing the beheading of more than a dozen men – purportedly Egyptian Christians – on a beach in Libya's Tripoli.
