Around 3,000 hectares are engulfed by wildfires in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District in Russia’s north, local department of the Emergencies Ministry said on Friday.
There are currently 30 wildfires on the area of over 2,870 hectares in the district. Out of them, seven wildfires have been localized. Fire traveled over 1,200 hectares over the last 24 hours, Russia's emergencies ministry statement carried by Itar tass news agency.
A total of 877 people are involved in extinguishing fire. Be-200 amphibious aircraft and Mi-8 helicopters are involved in firefighting efforts.
From the start of the wildfire season, a total of 361 forest fires were registered in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District on the area of 23,500 hectares.
