The Cabinet's approval of a draft law on media and press shows consensus between the government, journalists and media professionals, Secretary General of the national committee on press and media legislation Diaa Rashwan said on Monday.
The national committee has held 11 sessions with government representatives in addition to seven more that took place under the former government of Ibrahim Mahlab, Rashwan said.
Earlier in the day, the Cabinet approved in principle a draft law on the media and press.
The bill will be referred to the State Council for a revision of its final draft before being sent to the House of Representatives.
